Seasons at a glance

Zanzibar is warm all year. The difference is wind, rain and how busy the hotels feel. Transfers run 24/7 in every season; ocean days depend more on wind and tide than on a single “perfect” month.

June to October is the long dry season: cooler evenings, clearer roads, excellent wildlife windows if you add a mainland safari. December to February is hot and bright with calm seas on many days. March to May brings the long rains — greener, quieter, and still workable with flexible plans.

June to October — long dry season

This is peak comfort for many travellers: less humidity, reliable sunshine, and strong demand for Nungwi, Paje and Stone Town. Book transfers and popular tours early if you travel in July–August.

Safari Blue, Mnemba snorkeling and sunset dhows run daily when sea conditions allow. Pair an island week with Mikumi or the northern circuit if you want savannah contrast.

November — short rains

Showers come and go. Mornings are often clear; afternoons can cloud over. Hotels are quieter and the island feels local again. Good value if you keep a flexible day for the ocean.

December to February — hot and bright

Seas are often calm, sunsets are dramatic, and festive weeks fill fast. Hydrate, start early, and leave buffer time around ZNZ if you arrive on busy holiday flights.

March to May — long rains

Expect greener spice farms, fewer crowds and occasional heavy showers. We still collect every flight; we simply keep a rain plan for boat days and move highlights when the channel is rough.

Ramadan and local rhythm

Dates move each year. Stone Town is quieter by day; evenings come alive after sunset. We plan pickups and meals with local timing in mind — tell us if your trip overlaps Ramadan.
